Can any of you guys give me a simple understanding explanation about bass traps? I have read something about it on some forum, so I was wondering what difference would it make on a room. Also I have read something in a japanese forum, the guy was saying something about putting the speakers on top of a marble tile, would it make any difference? If so, why is that? Thanks for all your help. \:\)

I would recommend doing a Google search for "bass traps" or "acoustic treatments" or something like that...Here is a good read...

Hi Ichigo,

And welcome. Sir Quack's link is interesting reading, and as you'll learn, for bass traps to be effective at low frequencies, they tend to be large and somewhat unwieldy. Keep in mind that for listening rooms, a mix of absorbent and reflective surfaces tends to work best, so don't get carried away in overtreating your room.

In my travels as a former audio/video magazine editor to different countries, both Japan and the UK are home to quite a few very eccentric and unscientific views of audio reproduction. I've not come across the marble tile idea, but it makes no sense in terms of the physics of acoustics, so I would ignore it. This isn't to say that the USA is free of audio craziness and nutty tweak notions!

Regards,
Alan

Thanks everyone for the kind reply. I will take some more study time on acoustics matter.
