So, I had the M80ti's and found as alot have the the high end was a tad bright. They offered a resistor to limit the upper tweeter, i think it was.
So, what were the changes in v2?
and now what are the changes made with v3 ? and are there any professional reviews yet ?
Early M80's ti (v1?) had the midrange drivers running without a HP filter. So the transition between ti to V2 had significant changes made to the crossover which would impact sound quality. Drivers are tweaked according to Axiom as well over the years. V3 also has cosmetic changes such as the colour of the dustcap and magnetic grilles.
about the "tad bright high end", you could try some absorbing material on the walls between you and the speakers; maybe the reflections on those walls are a tad too much.
you can do a good job with cheap materials.
I am just calling them v1, because after the upgrade, they gave them the v2 distinction.
Yes, a tad bright, tried different situations and I am not the only one the found this. Which is why a resistor was installed. Axiom even sent these out.
but since v2 they changed the crossover or did something to limit this. I think it was changed the crossover from 1.8hz to 2.2hz for the mid to high. ..( I think ) or something like that to tame the highs abit. And I thnk something else was done.
I know the cometic changes to v3 with the caps and Magnetic grills ( something I did years ago with my M80 ) I put in metal pins in the rubber contact holes, then I cut off out the knobs and glued these round 3/8" magnets there, worked great.
I think some said, it was stupid ( for lack of the word )and not warranted, i would change the sound etc.
Just want to know what was changed, performance wise if any with the v3.

V3 has a different crossover I believe. My 1st m60's were never bright, unless they were in a reflective room or I was playing something recorded like crap.
Perceived brightness is usually characterized by non-linear behavior in the upper midrange, so a crossover design change like what occurred between v1 to v2 should make a more dramatic improvement in your case than that of the resistor band-aid fix.
Randy ... can't speak for the M60's never heard them. am thinking of getting a pair for music though.
just something about two tweeters ,I made a comment when I had them and was going to disconnect the middle tweeter or the upper one.

It isn't the use of the two tweeters or dual midranges in the original M80ti (around 2002, when I joined Axiom) that gave it a midrange/upper midrange aggressiveness that I didn't care for; it was a glitch--in techie terms, a non-linearity--in the frequency response that gave it an edginess noticeable on vocals, brasses and other instruments with upper midrange content. The dual midrange drivers and dual tweeters were added years ago by Ian to raise the power handling of the M80s and enable them to play very, very loud and clean, if listeners wanted those high SPLs in playback.
The resistors we briefly handed out to M80ti owners who complained of the edginess were a temporary and not very successful "fix", until Ian Colquhoun re-designed the crossover around Fall of 2003. The new "ti" M80 was much smoother and more linear, and it no longer had the upper midrange "edge" that I objected to in the blind listening tests of the original M80ti. However, the actual model number of the M80ti did not change until 2005, when the v2 series was introduced, along with other cosmetic/mechanical differences.
The M80 v3 included cosmetic and some minor mechanical changes but the biggest difference was the new titanium dome tweeter(s), with smoother and more linear off-axis response. In double-blind listening tests, this resulted in a more spacious and broader soundstage and smoother response overall. Those benefits of the v3 tweeter also extended to other Axiom models, including the M22 v3s, which I auditioned at great length against my old M22ti's.
Each evolution of the M80 has brought audible improvements, and these also trickled down to the M60 v3 and M22 v3.

To elaborate a bit more, the v3 series (M80 and M60) not only had crossovers tweaked but new drivers that required the crossover changes.
Axiomman, to put it another way, the M80ti with the redesigned crossover that appeared in 2003 was being produced for two years with no change in the "ti" designation, until 2005, when we created the v2 designation. Numerous owners of the M80ti purchased after 2002 have emailed us with the serial numbers of their M80s. From that we can check our records to see if their M80 includes the redesigned crossover.

My ti's are old, really old, I bought them in 05' and they were in the store for a year or two.
Actually I bought them the year after you went direct selling.
Just have to decide no if I want M22 or M60 or M80.
I also have to figure out, if I want bookshelfs or Floorstanding for movies. now
Axiom went ID well before 2005, I bet those speakers would have been in the store longer than a year or 2.
I would suggest doing the step program like many of us did, buy the M22s, see how you like them and as many have said, a good sub really helps you appreciate them even more. Once you have tried the M22's for a couple weeks, if you decide you want more you still have a couple weeks to trade up to the M60's or M80's for no additional shipping charges, you just pay the price differential, at least that was how it worked in the past.
