this winter I plan on doing some renos in my bedroom and while I'm at it I would like to rough in wiring for rear channel speakers. elevation? and also distance from inside corner?

Rear channels or surround channels? Surrounds should go to the sides and just behind the main listening area and maybe a foot about ear level or higher as need be.

Rears should be in from the sides to help to fill the gap between the side surrounds. Same goes for height of these.

And just adjust as you need to for cosmetic or other reasons. If you are using something like the QS speakers from here, they are GREAT for being forgiving on their exact placement.

Here is an article from this web site that gives much more detail. I've seen the exact graphics elsewhere too, and they are as legit as gold.

Glen, it isn't entirely clear whether you're you're talking about the back surround speakers in a 7.1 setup or the side surround speakers in a 5.1 setup(which some still refer to as "rear"). More info would be helpful, but if it's the former, they should be about 2-3' above ear level and separated by about the same distance as they are behind the listening position.

Surround speakers on a 5.1 setup is what I had in mind

thanks

If you're going with a 5.1 setup the side surrounds should be about 2-3' above ear level and slightly(maybe 2')farther back than directly to the side of the listening position.

Glen, how big is your bedroom? I wired my bedroom for 5.1 many years ago, today i am just using L/R/C+ a subwoofer. However, my room is pretty small maybe 12X12.

My bedroom is 11'x 15' and actually I will not be able to get them behind parralel. it is going to be less than ideal layout you know the stuff that gets in the way main door closet door windows all that crap. Perhaps L/C/R +sub is all I need.

If you mount them on the back wall, spread widely(maybe just a few inches from the sidewalls), they'll be slightly farther back than parallel(unless you literally have your head up against the wall).
