receiver selector for new speakers?

hi all, i'm new to the boards & excited about receiving my m22's next week. need some help with a dilemma if anyone can. i have 2 receivers, one in my bedroom handling sound from the computer & satellite, another in my living room for theatre dvd & vhs. but only one set of good speakers (in the living room), i want to be able to route both into my new m22's safely. unfortunately its too far to just run an optical cable out of one receiver & into the other, i've read about speaker selectors & heard mention of amp selector, but no clue of what to look for in this instance. now i'm not the most elite on knowledge so if someone could help me towards what i am looking for, i would be grateful.

Hmmmm.

I think you might be able to buy an A/B speaker switch and connect it backwards. In other words, attach the A terminals to one receiver, the B terminals to the other receiver, and the common terminals to your M22s.

Can enyone see a problem with this possible solution? It should work fine as long as the switch is a break-before-make variety, right?

It gives me the heebie-jeebies, but I can't define why (not knowing enough about electricity).

Yes, a RELIABLE break-before-make is absolutely essential here. You NEVER want to connect the speaker output terminals of two amps in parallel.

Hey guys how about hooking up a CD player(has its built-in pre-amp volume) into a power amp and a receiver pre-out into that same power amp. The poweramp would have a Y-cable. Is that a no-no? I was thinking of do a A-B switcher but have both makes it easier. Whachat guys think?
Reason for this is CD playback straight to power amp give the best sound. But I want my receiver hooked up to the amp for my surround stuff.

Saturn, that's a no-no, too. You NEVER want to connect two pre-amp outputs (whether it is a receiver pre-out or a CD player) in parallel, either -- if that is what you meant by the use of a Y-adapter.

The output circuit of one amp would act as a very heavy (low-impedance) load for the other amp. If you are unlucky, you will have a fried output stage. A better scenario will be lots of distortions. Not a pretty picture...

I'll just do the ole switcheroo. Disconnect the cables and reconnect it etc... sigh

Or you can always use an RCA input selector box -- nothing tricky like using a speaker selector box backwards, since it is designed to do the job.
