Hey guys, I need your assistance please.

A while ago I purchased the Pioneer to replace my Denon 3808 in my home theatre, but for various reasons, I wasn't able to. Before I start this monumental feat, I need your help to understand the receivers manual regarding 7.1 speaker setups. I'm assuming that for a 7.1 setup, I connect the front speakers to the designated connectors, and attach the sides and rears to the surround and surround back connectors? This may seem like a silly question, but the manual is a lot more convoluted than Denon's. It shows height speakers being used in a simple 7.1 setup(which is actually more speakers than a 7.1 setup has).

Here's a link to the manual.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Cam

You are correct. There are mistakes in the pictures of connections it seems with reguard to what the diagrams are named. Totally confusing.

The front heights and front wides are assignable outputs it seems:

Heights or bi-amping mains.
Wides for zone 2 or speaker B amping.

It seems the wides/heights share an amp channel and cannot play at the same time. ie. 11 speaker pairs but only 9 channel amp.

Totally confusing.
My Onkyo has connections for an 11.2 setup, but can only power 7 channels. Mine has wides and heights, but if I put speakers on those connections, I need to turn off the rears and/or side surrounds.
Thanks Serenity. And Nick smile.
Another question. I got everything hooked up today, and I have a ground loop hum coming from my sub with this Pio. I find this bizarre because I didn't have one with my Denon.

I've been out of the loop for a while and can't remember what I need to cure the problem. I seem to recall one option is some type of wall wart thingy the the subwoofer plugs into. Maybe I'm way off......

As usual, your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Edit: I don't have a satellite or cable box in my system, yet the hum does disappear if I unplug the subwoofer from the receiver. All of my components are plugged into an APC home theatre surge protector unit, and the subwoofer is plugged into a regular outlet.

First stop is remove ground chassis screw on sub if with axiom.

Second is ensure sub connection is good at both ends and cable is shielded. Not just a plain jane rca cable.

Failing these steps, next step is to ensure all equipment is fed from the same leg in the panel. Ie. Try another plug for sub/receiver.

Forgot about that. Will try.

That's fine.

All my components are plugged into a APC HT surge protector (including the receiver). I will try another plug for the sub, but moving it isn't an option.

The really confusing thing to me is why the heck this is happening with a Pio, when it didn't with two previous Denon's in the same setup. It's frustrating.

Thinking back, what else did change?
Did you add or remove a component at the same time?
Only component I removed was the satellite receiver (it hasn't worked for years). And the only current change is that I have my speaker wire in split loom (two channels per loom) to tidy everything up.
Anyone know where you can get custom length sub cables in Canada? I need a very short one (it's just being used to link my receiver to a SUB-1RR), and I don't want to have to make such a miniscule purchase from BJC or Monoprice.

Also, apologies for asking for assistance....

You can get high quality rca cables of many lengths at long and mcquade or guitar centers. Cheap too.
Thanks again, Serenity.

I generally end up buying from www.cablesonsale.ca They bring in the Monoprice stuff and sell it from Toronto for a bit more but works out to be no hassle with imports or the like.

Thanks, Matt! Just bookmarked it. I'll definitely use them in the future.
Balls.
I'm guessing ^^^ was a much more interesting post before editing smile
LOL. Nah. You know me. I just say it without giving two fuggs what anyone thinks smile.

I edited because I ended up finding the answer to my question.
