I have been getting a wierd rattling noise from my right M22 ever since I got home from Christmas. I only hear it on my new DVD-Audios I got for Christmas: Ryan Adams Gold and Nitty Gritty Surround from AIX records. I have not tried out much else yet, so I do not know if it is caused by those discs only. Does anyone know what could be the cause of this, it sounds like it is the tweeter only that is causing the rattling sound. I actually have a second tweeter, so I may try to install that one and see it that fixes the problem.

Ok you have been here long enough i shouldnt have to say this.. but have you tried tightehing the screws? both the inner and outer ones. those seem to be causing alot of this kind of stuff in the past.

Maybe something (a screw, perhaps) shook loose during the earthquake? I would tighten all the screws, and if that doesn't work, call the Axiomites.

I did tighten them, I tried it immediately after I wrote my post, and I think it worked. Stay tuned!

I actually removed the screws entirely and the rattling stopped.

did you put the screws back though?

Yes, of course, but the sound is back, just not as prevalent. Now I may call Joe or someone else at Axiom.

I switched my M22's to the other side to see if the problem has anything to do with wiring or anything, and the problem still exists with the specific M22.

After doing some painful exploration at loud volumes with my ear next to each driver, I find the problem to be most prevalent when listening through the rear port into the back of the tweeter. The rattling noise is prevalent with almost all material when one listens through the rear port. So I have put in a call to Brent to see if he can help me out. I already have an extra tweeter, so I may try installing that with Brents advice.

OK, I think I worked it out now. Brent told me to tighten the woofers, and I think that solved the problem.

Ow ow ow! You may have just lost the top 1kHz of your hearing range.

That's one way of getting rid of rattling noises. Deafen yourself.

snippy- Wanna see/hear if your speakers still rattle? Go get the Underworld DVD. Man that has got to be the most overcooked DD track I have ever heard. Great mix, but totally overcooked (even worse than FOTR 2 disc). If the Underworld mix can't make your speakers rattle then nothing will.

What I have been using to test it and what showed me the problem in the first place was the AIX DVD-A disc of Nitty Gritty Surround. There is a certain guitar solo that causes the rattling noise.

I do have Underworld next on my Netflix queue, though, so we shall see.

And the volumes were not ridiculously loud, just at aroun -14 on my Denon 2802. But I did have to put my head next to each driver to hear where the problem was coming from.
