Sorry about re-sending this, but the original post fell to the bottom of the stack.

In June 2001 review, frequency response of the M40Ti as measured by Soundstage was not as
flat as it is in the technical specifications (40-22K, +/- 3dB). More specifically, there was a
significant dip of on-axis response (8-9dB) at about 700Hz, followed by comments that,
subjectively, M40's midrange was not as good as M3's. Since I was considering ordering one of
your tower models, I would appreciate your comments on this measurement. Also, it would be
interesting to know if higher end models (M60 or M50) have similar behavior, or this is inherent
to M40.

The above test could be found on soundstage.com web site : http://www.soundstage.com/revequip/axiom_millenniam40ti.htm

Thanks in advance.

If you refer to the listening window on the SoundStage! review you will see that the significant drop goes away. The listening window is a much better measurement of the actual performance of the loudspeaker. Your question about the mid-range response goes to the core of the compromise in this type of design. The deeper bass being created by the same driver will have an effect on the mid-range, albiet minimal. As you move up to the M60 and M80 this issue is addressed by the use of dual 6 1/2" woofers dedicated to just the low bass.
