How do you get Dolby Digital to play on a Denon 1604? All I can get is the PL II to work. It is set up through a coaxial from the DVD player to the reciever. The manual is virtually useless. Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

This seems like such a simple solution, but sometimes people overlook the obvious.

Check your DVD player audio settings... make sure it's sending "bitstream" or similar, and make sure you've chosen a Dolby Digital audio track (either from the DVD menu or the "audio" button on the remote)... the receiver chooses the decoder based on header information it gets in the bitstream.

Hi,

BrenR is right. Sometimes you have to hit "Languages" on the DVD menu when you load the disc in order to access the Audio Setup. Choose Dolby Digital or "Surround Sound" and make sure you have coaxial digital connection to the Denon and that you selected the "Digital" input for the DVD, not Analog.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've been gone all day so I will give it a try tonight.
And actually some DVD's (mostly older movies) may only have a dolby surround soundtrack as opposed to Dolby Digital 5.1.

I tried playing The Hulk, Identity, and Kill Bill. None of them worked. On my system, I already have 6 analog cables going to my reciever so I just use the multi channel in.

Matt, in your question you asked about DD and said that you were using a digital connection. Now in your last reply you say that you're using only analog inputs?

I should probably clear things up here. In my system, I use analog inputs because of the SACD and use the DD decoder in my 755V. It works just fine. On my dad's new Denon, I can't get the DD to work (which is through a coaxial connection). I forget who it was because we can't view posts while we are typing one, but someone stated that I could be using old material. I was just letting him know that the disks that I am using do work because I have tried them in my system. Sorry for the confusion. I will try in a few minutes here to try to adjust the setting in the player itself.
It could also be the receiver as well. It may be set to receive analog signals. You would have to change the settings to digital or auto.

Alright guys, got it fixed. The DVD player was set to D-pcm instead of Dolby Digital. I fixed that and problem solved! Thanks for the help.

I just love those commercials - partially because they have a little gecko in them, and I am (or at least WAS) somewhat of a lizard fanatic.

Over the years, I've had 1 Collared Lizard, 1 Bearded Dragon, 2 Anoles, 1 Leapord Gecko, 1 Iguana, 1 Chinese Water Dragon, and various little lizards that you can find in gardens.

I say the word 'WAS' up above because I had these pets back when I lived at home with my parents. Sadly, my current apartment doesn't allow much in the way of pets (only fish), but that will soon change. I just signed a lease (on Apr 15) for a new place that allows pets - PETS HERE I COME!

Well, the main reason I am moving is because the rooms are bigger and have better acoustics for the slightly cheaper, but the pets is a good bonus reason...

DJ-

i had a buddy back when i was in the army, who had a savannah monitor. it was as thick as a baseball bat, and around 2 1/2 to 3 feet long. it was one mean mutha. my buddy used to feed it live mice, which it would grab in its mouth, thrash violently against the rocks in the aquarium to kill it, then toss its head back, and eat them whole, sometimes still kickin. it was kinda cool to watch..
