My HK AVR65 receiver has settings for small or large for limited range and full range speakers respectively. I am looking at a pair of M60's and a VP100 and I don't know if I should set the receiver to large or small?

As a side note, if I set to large, will the sub get any signal? I know that if I set the speakers to small, lower frequencies from the five channels get routed to the sub but I don't know if 5.1 has dedicated LFE or if the LFE is just dumped from the other channels?

Greg
Greg, set all speakers "small" regardless of their range. By definition a 5.1 source has a separate .1 LFE channel which may at times carry special low frequency effects but often has no content. This is entirely separate from the low bass which may be present in the other 5 channels. Your receiver's manual undoubtedly describes a setting if the mains are set "large" where the sub will also receive some of the 5 channel low bass.
Greg, take a look at this thread for other options on setting your M60s using 'large'.

Greg,

Internally, the Large and Small settings for each speaker determine whether or not the internal sound processor will cut the bass signal from that channel. When the bass is cut from a channel, the bass redirection circuitry sends the corresponding bass frequencies to the sub woofer or other "Large" speakers.

However, since bass sounds have a certain amount of directionality, it is best not to cut them, if possible.
You can also turn up your bass through an equalizer...
Chess, you always come up with great links to other threads which in turn lead to other great links. Thanks!
In the thread you linked to, I noticed a post by sushi. I hadn't thought of him in a while and it made me think how much I miss *holding back a tear* his input .
