Something in my room seems to resonate at frequencies in the range 430-475 Hz. Any idea what might be causing it? Would I be looking for a chamber only 15-16 inches wide? Or is it possible that the fundamental resonant frequency is lower but I'm hearing a higher overtone more? Or, should I be looking for a solid object? Or, is it all in my head? I hear the resonance most clearly not when my stereo is playing, but when it's very quiet and there's appliance noise or machinery outside.

Thanks very much!

Oh man! That's one of those things that can drive you nuts. You'll search and search for the source of the resonance, and never find it. Then, six months later, quite by accident, you'll discover the source. AAARRRGGGHHH!

Wish I could help, but I'm at a loss.

do you have hvac ducts that could be vibrating or carrying sound throught the house?

Yes. When I get home I'll be sure to measure them. That sounds like a definite possibility.

If that's it, is there anything I can do about it?

To be honest I'm not even sure if it's loud enough to affect music listening. I sometimes think I hear some kind of ringing in music, but it's hard to tell whether it's in the recording or in my room.
