Hello everyone,

someone is trying to sell me a used pair of M22Ti's, and in his email he sent me the following information:

"Also, I have been informed by the authorized
dealer that I purchased the M22ti's from, that Axiom has cut the weight down
from 49 per pair to 36 per pair, which apparently isn't a good thing. I
happen to have the 49lb. pair."

Does anyone at Axiom have any information to refute or substantiate this? If it is true, how has it changed the speaker? Thanks a lot!!!

Ravi.

The first edition M22s were heavier than the second edition because the amount of shielding on the motor structure was too much on the first edition. Shielding is accomplished by using a canceling magnet. If the canceling magnet is too heavy or too light the shielding will be reduced from optimum. The heavier canceling magnet actually made the first edition models less shielded than the second edition.

Thanks for the quick response Ian!

Does this, however, change the sound of the speaker at all?

The change in shielding does not change the performance.

How can one tell the differance between the SE version and the normal version?

My m22's have the letter "s" in the serial number, but when i weighed them on an old bathroom scale, it was approx. 20 pounds...

The universal change to the second edition was the front edges of the cabinet on each side of the front baffle changed from two small rounds to two small angles.
