Hello!

I am VERY interested in a pair of M60TI and I wish to know the following:

1. What kind of internal wiring is used?
2. How inert is the speaker cabinets?
3. Are the speakers spiked?
4. Are the drivers made in house?

Thx,
Dj

i will be the first to bite.. but i dont have the answer to all your questions.

1- i have no idea what you mean by "what kind" of internal wiring? you may need to clarify that.

2- i am not sure what you mean by "inert" either?

3- spiked? do you mean have spikes on bottom.. yes and no. they send you both spikes and rubber knobs that you can put on depending on if you have carpet or hardwood floors.

4- drivers are NOT made in house. i believe they are purchased from over seas. but the cabinets and build process, all happen at the factory.

hope that helps.. BTW- the 60's are awesome speakers.. i have a pair myself. tremendous detail, even at incredibally loud volumes.. and very precise and clean sounding. and very beautiful to look at.

dje- are you by any chance comparing these speakers with wharfedale?

1. Not sure, but not monster cable like Klipsch, thank god.
2. Please expand? They are a wedge design.
3. They come with spikes or rubber pads, sound is no different if you use or don't use either.
4. No, drivers are oversees, as most speaker companies, but I can tell you, they are the best I've ever used.

axiom tech support may be able to expand if your not finding your answere here or in the product page.

ps: I personally auditioned m60's recently against B&W 703's, Klipsch, NHT, and Paradigm using a variety of AV receivers at a professional recording studio my brother in law owns. Personally, I think overall the my m60's one hands down. just my 2 cents, your mileage may vary..

What I mean by "inert" is how solid is the cabinetry, built wise.
As for the wiring, I wish to know if high grade wiring is used internally. As it makes no sense to use MIT, Wireworld or Kimber etc. between AMP and SPEAKER if the speaker is using cheap thin wire internally.

Thx!

I didn't know it even made sence to buy MIT, Kimber or wireworld. Doesn't that cable have copper in it too?

DJE,

Axioms are very well engineered speakers. They are designed and evaluated at the factory using double-blind testing. If the designers felt that the wire they were using degraded the sound quality, then I'm sure they would have made a change.

Rest assured that the wire is physically end electrically up to the task. Also keep in mind that the length of the wire has a lot to do with its performance. Since internal wiring is all short, this further reduces the chance that it will negatively affect the sound.

(If you hang around here long enough, you'll see that wiring is a touchy subject. )

Well, yea cable is cable perhaps. I would give Axiom Speaker Cables a try along with the speakers. But my main concern here is the wire inside the speaker. My old Boston Acoustics uses wire internally that is like a few stands of hair! I hope this is not the case for M60Ti.

Are you concerned with how the speakers sound, or how thick the internal wiring is? If they sound great, who cares?

spiffnme,

Hee Hee! Yea you are right! This is the end point!! Best sound is what I am looking for and it seems the M60TI is worth a try.

Where do you live? There's likely an Axiom owner near you that'd be more than happy to give you an in-home demo. I've had numerous people stop by my place for a listen. Everyone has left very impressed.

DJE, I just reread my reply I made to you earlier. Yikes, I sounded like a big a$$. Sorry about that. I should have explained my opinion without sounding like a jerk. I really need to proof my replies a little better .
Anyway, I've had the opportunity in the past to crack open my VP150 (tech supports request) and It looks like 16 AWG copper wire and it's truly a work of art. It's standard grade fine strand copper wire. As you can tell, I'm not a huge fan of boutique cabling .

I think you should contact Axiom for #1. I'm sure they'd disclose, since they've got nothing to hide.

You should see the wires inside my speakers. If you think my speakers look good on the outside (see my photo) you should check them out on the inside. Lets just say that foil wrapper works wonders.

spiffnme just to be clear can he come demo them and take them apart and look inside? or just listen?

DJ, welcome. You may be unnecessarily concerned about the internal wiring(and external too, for that matter), which, within reason, doesn't have a significant effect. The 16ga or 18ga regular copper wire which is typically used is as "high grade" as is necessary for the short lengths involved. This discussion of speaker wire by a well-respected veteran audio professional is worth studying. Note that all speakers have over 100 feet of thin copper wire in their drivers.

As good as my M60's sound, they could be hollow for all I care

I am very very impressed with the quality and craftmenship on the exterior, I can only imagine what its like on the inside.

No. I don't open my speakers up for anybody. (Not even myself!)

The ports provide all the necessary ingress, anyway...
