Question;
If I want to make sure my Denon 2900 sends regular 2 ch. analog signals (in addition to the 6 ch. SACD & DVD-A signals)to my Yam 2500, do I need to connect the 2 channel "mixed" output to my Yam 2500, in addition to connecting the 6 ch. analoge outputs?
Or will the denon automatically send 2 channel material to the reciver via the Front l. & Front r. connections on the 6 channel outputs?
And if I connect the digital coax, does this defeat the analog 2 channel connection?
The manuals for both are a bit vague (there's a surprise!)
Thanks!

I think I remember seeing a post saying that you needed separate 2 channel connections for CD. I don't think it will use the 6 channel connection.

I'm guessing you have a coax or optical connection for DVD but you might have to change a setting on the CD player to get the 2 channel audio onto the digital link. Otherwise it probably goes to analog 2 channel.

Just guessing though. Good luck !

Bridgman,
Figured this one out by trial and error(s!)
It will output a 2 channel analog signal from a RBCD throught the front left & right outputs of the six channel connections.
All I had to do was make sure that my input on the 2500 was set to mulitchannel, to recognize what input the signal was coming through.
Another question has arisen that I posed on my other posting;
Do I need the digital coax connection at all, if I am only going to use the 2900 for analog playback & mutli channel music?
I'm guessing that I still need it for the audio portion of DVDs. Correct?

I think so...

I don't quite get the question, so I'll asnwer it from both angles. The coax on the receiver? Yes, if you're using a different DVD player for DVD-video. THe coax on the 2900? No - regardless of whether you use the 2900 for DVD-videos or not.

"THe coax on the 2900? No - regardless of whether you use the 2900 for DVD-videos or not."
That is what a friend of mine said as well.
But that seems to be counter-intuitive, even if it works.
I would think that if I use only the analog 6 ch outputs, then I will only be using the DACs in the Denon, or I will be using the DACs in the Denon and also the DACs in the Yamaha.
My thoughts on using the Digital Coax were that I would then only be using the DACs in the Yamaha to deal with the digital signal being output from the Denon.
Now to go back downstairs and push it somewhat back against the wall, and relax and watch a movie, even if it is not completly set up...

You'd only be using the DACs in the Denon, not both (the Yammie will basically just act as an amp under this configuration).

What you could try is both ways - that way you can decide which DACs you prefer, sonically. Connect the coax and the 6-ch analogs. Watch a movie in 5.1, then switch audio inputs on the Yammie between the MCH and the coax ins. You'll probably prefer the DACs on the Denon... but who knows?
