I have the m60's and vp150 center. The pink noise is different between them, making it difficult to set up using spl. The center is much lower and requires a higher setting than fronts. Then it drowns out the fronts. Is this normal? Should I just lower the db's by ear. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem with my VP150 and M22's.. I realized one part of the problem was placement of the speakers. I moved the center slightly back from the M22's, and raised its volume 1 or 2 db's, and in badly recorded dvd;s, up to 4 or 5 db's higher. I have yet to use an SPL meter on my system, but with other systems I've seen it on, the center normally does sound fairly different than the mains. I would just adjust by ear at that point.

Since we don't know much about your HT system its hard to say why the difference in volume. ravi is correct in that some source materials are different in the "loudness" of the center channel. But other things can cause the differences as well. Be sure you center channel speaker "setting" on your receiver is correct (large or small). Since the speakes have different sensitivities and dispersion patterns, this can add to the imbalance problem. Another is room acoustics. If you receiver allows a "rotating" pink noise signal to be sent to each speaker (i.e. LF C RF RR LR) and again and again, then sit in your best listening spot and adjust the center and rear channels to match the front speakers for proper balance (loudness) Its OK if the settings for the center are higher than the fronts, ( and for the surrounds, etc) All things considered, it would be incredible if all speakers were actually set to the same setting for proper balance!

Good Luck,

In my setup my left surround is 3db higher then the right. I guess I was looking for to much getting the same noise from the 3 front speakers.(my last speakers had very similiar pink noise). It was primarily that the L & R speaks were of a much higher frequency than the center, but, I couldn't be happier...
