Anyone ever try blocking the ports on their speakers to tighten up the bass? I've been doing this for a while now--off and on--by stuffing them with foam. I just listened to a few tracks with the ports blocked, and I swear it sounded better--not as much bass, but what was there sounded tighter and punchier. I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried this or not. I like it--gives you a different sound when you get bored.

I know a *few* but they shall remain nameless.

Seriously though wouldn't that be the same as mounting the m22's flush against the wall? Anybody have thoughts on this?

I don't own the M22s, but I use the foam plugs on my MA GR 10s. In my room it really cuts down the boominess and tightens it up considerably. The downside is I lose a bit of the visceral impact of the bass. Just makes me want to turn it up more! Without the plug the bass tends to overwhelm the music and drown out the other notes. I think it really depends on placement and room acoustics.

If I might offer an alternative to blocking the ports... pull the speakers out into the room to minimize the room reinforcement. Blocking the ports reduces bass output from the speaker to compensate for bass reinforcement by the room... the other alternative is to leave the speaker "flat" and remove or reduce the bass reinforcement from the room.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm afraid if I pull the speakers out any further I will be sitting between them:). Very limited by room constraints. One of these days I'll get a dedicated room. . .
Currently I have the plugs in and am using my sub to fill in the bottom end.
