Hi everyone. I am considering using regular 14 gage speaker wire for outdoor use. It will be run entirely through pvc conduit and sealed within the outdoor speakers. The speakers are from Stereostone so will be placed on the ground.

Do you think the wire and jacket will hold up for a few years?

Thanks.

Unless you're a speaker cable shaman, why not just use BX cable (the armored stuff that runs AC to your garage) - it already comes in a metal sheath, you just have to trench for it, rather than excavate, plus it'll last a lot longer than you'll need it.

The only drawbacks are:

it's solid copper - not stranded, a bit finicky to work with doing your hookups, but can always put in a breakout box in the yard to turn it into stranded for the last foot or so for ease of connection.

it looks like AC - the next house owner might wonder what plugs outside aren't energized when they move in and add it into a circuit. Your speakers will move with you, but who knows where you'll leave the bare wires...

I guess if they're in conduit and *don't* last very long, it would be pretty simple to pull some more wire.
