The new QS4 stands are modeled after the QS8 stands so I assume a fixed height of about 32". Alan has said many times the QS series should be above and slightly forward or back from the listening position. 32" places these at about the same height as my M40's.

How will the fixed height effect the performance and placement of the QS4's when using the stands?

Were do you hide the wire going up to the speaker?

Hi Steve C,

The wire goes through a hole in the base and up the center of one of the uprights.

The QS4s rely on their multidirectional dispersion pattern to bounce sound towards the front and rear walls, to the opposite side walls, upwards and downwards--all of this creating a reverberant mix (including some direct sounds) which imitates the envelopment created in large movie theaters by many surround speakers.

Their quadpolar dispersion usually makes them more amenable to a variety of mounting locations in less-than-perfect rooms, so the performance on 32-inch stands should be very good. The Dolby Labs rule for surround positioning is up to 20 degrees forward or rearward of an imaginary horizontal line drawn through the listening area, and those quidelines are still good ones to follow.

Regards,
