My HK AVR65 receiver refuses to let the subwoofer go into standby mode when the receiver is shut off. While "off" the power light glows orange and the subwoofer light is green. While on and no movie is playing, the sub will go dormant and amber lights up. If I completely unplug my receiver, sub will also go into standby mode but I have not done this in the 7 years I have had my sub.

Have I damaged my sub in any way? This was a known issue with the AVR65 but everyone said not to worry about it. I also didn't want to have to unplug the receiver every time I was done watching a movie just to get the sub to go dormant.

Doesn't your sub have an On/Off switch on the back panel?

I really don't believe you are hurting a darn thing by having the sub on anyway, I've heard of folks who leave their power amps turned on 24/7 without any problems.

My previous sub had a on/off switch w/out standby. It stayed powered continuously for nearly 9 years with no ill effects whatsoever!
My first sub was the ep350, which went into standby mode while not in use. Then I upgraded to the 500, which has no standby. Spoke to the nice folks at Axiom who said leaving it on will pose no problems. That was almost a year ago and I have not had any problems. They did say the 500 consumes almost no power while idle. Having said that, I wonder how much powe the 350 would have consumed had it not gone into standy mode?

You should be fine

I received my new EP350 last week and also noticed that the LED always stayed green when I shut down my system. I emailed Axiom about the power LED being green and the sub always being warm, thinking maybe it was never switching to standby. The reply from Axiom said "The light on the subwoofers amplifier does remain green when in the standby
position. The current draw when idle is equivalent to that of a night light."

One of my sons also has an EP350, it is a year or two old, and his led does turn red in standby. I also notice the online PDF of the EP350 quick setup guide says the led will turn red in standby, but the same guide that ships with the sub only says the led is green when on and yellow for fault condition (says nothing about red-standby). So I'm thinking there has been an engineering change in the last year or so with the EP350. Either way I feel sure it will not harm the sub to leave it turned on. As always I will unplug all my electronics (including sub) if I will be gone for an extended time.

Sounds like the circuitry of the EP350 has become similar to the EP500/600 (just like the driver did). Hmmm. Those wanting an EP400 have it. It's called the EP350.

My SVS stays on 24/7 and I have seen no ill effect, yet.

There is really no "wear out" mechanism for solid state devices like there is with tubes.

Other than hurricane induced power outages, my little 250W PE plate amp has been left on 24/7 for the last about four years or so with no problems.

It has always switched from standby to on without a glitch(I keep it located out of the sub cabinet where only I can see it cause I'm constantly curious about whether it happens to be "on" at the moment or not...ya can't usually tell unless there's a major blast or something!!)
