I am from Tulsa, OK and will be heading to Kansas City for the weekend (Oct. 12-14). I was hoping to audtion some axioms (I would like to hear epic 60 HT with ep 500)...

I checked the boards and out of the three people listed in Kansas City none had posted in a long time...

Any suggestions?
Drive another 3 hours to Des Moines??? \:\) Sirquack and I live up this way...
Roaddddddddddddddddd Trip. \:\)
Sounds like a great idea but I don't think my girlfriend will go for it...

I was having a hard enough time convincing her that we may stop by some stranger's house in Kansas City to audition speakers that she doesn't think we need in the first place...

I have been lurking around here for some time now and have yet to hear any axioms. I think my purchase will be closer to Christmas time so hopefully I will get to hear them by then.
We're not strangers here... Strange, sometimes, but strangers??? Nah... ;\)

I think she's been watching too many movies.

Think about how many movies she would watch if I get a 5.1 HT...
That would create even more worries, and squash auditions for future upgrades!
I better go all out and get this:

nah, but I suppose I can always buy 'em and if all else fails I can take advantage of the 30 day trial period... I would hate to spend 300 bucks shipping a 5.1 system back if I didn't like it
I hope your room is big, that 7.4 system would rock your entire state. \:\)

Those one-eyed clowns look very ominous.
I don't have quite what you're looking for, I have an Epic 80 minus the sub, but I am (unfortunately) temporarily located in SEK and might be along your route if you're interested in stopping by.
John, please check my pm.

Thanks

terzaghi - I am in KC and have an Epic 80 5.1 w/ EP600. I should be around this weekend if you want to come by.

You're not going to the Buffalo Run are you?
Haylo, that would be perfect!
Sunday is best for me... check your pm.
I will only need a short audition.

And I probably will not be attending the buffalo run considering I have never heard of such an event.

Thanks!

The KC crew comes out of hiding. \:\)

Well I say "Midwestern US" on my profile, so I guess I could be a bit more specific ;\) I suppose it would help if I put my name in on the audition thread.
Be sure to take some DVDs and CDs that you want to demo. Nothing like getting to a demo only to hear something that you are not familiar with and then not knowing if it sounds better or not...

I noted the same thing in a PM to terzaghi \:\)
Cool. Just wanted to make sure that he planned ahead.
Thanks for the heads up.
I will bring some music.

Haylo,
I may just check out what movies you have available since my current collection is rather limited. I assume you have a movie or two that you can audition some scenes from..?

Again I do not know how much time my better half will allow me to listen to your setup...

She needs to be understanding about this. Perhaps if you took the time to explain to her that millions of years of human evolution are unlikely to turn on a dime and therefore you must heed your instinctive need to act as a hunter/gatherer of electronics for the benefit of you both. Well that or tell her that electronics are to men what shoes are to women, I've never met a woman who couldn't relate when things were phrased in those terms. ;\)

terzaghi - I am flexible and will spend with you whatever time you have available. Really though, if you want to make the effort to drive up to my place you should be firm in that you want to spend a decent amount of time for evaluation. A few minutes or whatever short amount of time barely allows one to begin hearing things.

It seems to me the barrier is one of misconception. That being her contention that all speakers regardless of size sound the same. While all of us here know that is untrue, it may be that she hasn't heard an audiophile grade of speaker. It may also be that she just doesn't have an interest in the home theatre hobby and feels that anything over a few hundred dollars spent is frivolous, even if there are marked difference in sound. I have a full set of Infinity RS5's and also B&W DM602-S3's that I can hook up, and trust me, there is a definitive difference when compared to the Axioms.

Please know that none of these comments are meant as an affront to your significant other. I firmly believe that both people in a relationship should be understanding (or at least tolerant) of the others' hobbies and interests so long as they do not undermine the basis for the relationship or put in jeopardy the shared quality of life you desire. My personal experience with this issue time and time again, is that if that mutual tolerance/understanding isn't there, then that paves the way for potential hard feelings down the line. JohnGalt's analogy, while said with a smile, is actually a very valid one. And with that, I won't belabor the point any longer.

I have a good number of HD movies, so no worries on finding worthy demo material on that front.

All said, there is a reason the term WAF exists!
She is really very understanding and tolerant of my hobbies/interests 99% of the time.

This trip was originally designed as a 'weekend get-away' for the two of us...

I mentioned to her that we should meet up with one of my xbox live friends that I have been gaming with for the last 2 years and have a drink.

The next day I thought about finding an axiom audition while I was in KC.

I think the combination of the two suggestions has her questioning if this weekend is really set aside for the two of us... which it is, but, why not take advantage of the opportunities that show up along the way?

Ahh, I understand... You're right, it only makes sense to take advantage of being in KC \:\)
