Hello everyone!

December 6th won the poll, so let's get together that night. Unless anyone has any objections, I'll call the Seanachie to book a private room, if available.

Here is the location:

I'll book Monday. So excited to meet you all!

The Seanachie sounds great, Amie.

I wonder if they will miss me at work for a couple of hours?

That place sounds really cool!

Seanachie ?
Where the hell is Seanachie ?
Is that off of Broadway?
Oh ya, waitaminute, i forgot. That's in Calgary.
Geez Louise, how naive was i to fall for that one.
NO ONE comes to Winnipeg.
What was i thinking?

Posted By: Hutzal Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 11/19/07 03:42 PM
I'll make note of it on my calendar.

Also Amie, what time were you thinking?
Posted By: Amie Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 11/19/07 04:47 PM
What about 7? Does that give everyone time to get there?
Posted By: Mojo Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 11/19/07 04:53 PM
7 is good for me.
Posted By: Hutzal Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 11/19/07 04:55 PM
I live right near there so 7 will work great for me as well.

I know with the concentrated brain power available on the boards we can come up with the right excuse.

EG: {holding your ears vaguely} Everything is sounding bad lately - I've got an appointment with Dr. Lofft - will be back shortly.

or

I think I'm coming down with the 'Axiom' flu. It's going around - I read about it on the internet. I'm going to take a couple of hours off to deal with it.

You get the picture. Now, let's see what we can come up with that will fly!

Hurrah! Purolator made it through all the snowstorms and we have a few treats for Thursday night! Can't wait to meet everyone - see you at 7!

Ok, now I am really disheartened I will be at work

Anyone with good contacts within Purolator? Based on the weight of the boxes, we could calculate how many drivers the new M120 has! \:\) If bribery is required, we can discuss.

oh my goodness....I don't think I can make this engagement...sheesh, I double booked myself, and my wife certainly won't let me give up the other thing...

I will try my best...

I think this whole thing is terrific, and deeply wish I could be there. I'm hoping this goes well and is just the first of many Axiom GTGs, one of which, hopefully, willbe close enough that I can participate. Have a great time everyone. And please, someone take a camera and use it cuz

I hope some pics are taken so I can see what I missed while at work! I think this could be the one time I regret working evenings.

You Calgarians need to get your priorities straight ;\)
Posted By: Hutzal Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/05/07 04:43 PM
I really wish I could make it, but it is because I DO have my priorities straight ;\)
Posted By: jakewash Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/05/07 05:00 PM
I would agree you have your priorities right Robb, but I am missing just because of work!

At least I have the satisfaction of knowing that I at least contributed to this in a very small way helping to make sure the 'treats' were delivered in time.
Posted By: Hutzal Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/05/07 05:36 PM
dangit, I really wish I knew what this treat is! even tho I can't make it I would sure like to have a treat too!

My sched is looking a bit tight, but should be able to make it for a bit. I've gotta catch a plane early the next morning for sales meetings.

Might be a bit late too....Al

Hey folks, sorry I missed the GTG, but had to go back to a hospital(its for work) and now finishing packing for my meetings in Vancouver tomorrow morning.

I wish I could have met Ian and Amie....was hoping to ask a question about my QS8 placement and discuss Kilkenny cream ale placement, but stuff happens.

Hope things went well and the rest of your trip isnt as cold.

We were so sorry to miss you, ctown! It was really great to meet PaulM and Mojo and share a few pints - always so nice to put a name to a face! I was especially pleased that we didn't get kicked out in spite of Mojo rewiring the place:

Calgary is such a friendly town that we didn't even get told to turn our speakers down! (Or asked why we had them in a bar, for that matter!) Thank you both for coming - that was really fun for us!

One more pic - friendly new faces!

Really love those HG finishes and I was so sad all of last night knowing this was happening. Only 2 from all of Alberta, a sad state of affairs. I knew it should of taken place on Sunday afternoon.

Amie, if you need shipping for those audiobytes just drop them off at my house (I get a really great discount) and I will make sure they get sent back.
Posted By: Hutzal Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/07/07 04:35 PM
I am really glad that they didn't bring out the A250-2, that really would have gotten me quite upset... \:\)

I think we could have gotten a few from the San Francisco area, too... come and visit us!
Posted By: PaulM Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/07/07 08:00 PM
Amie - it was wonderful meeting you, Alan and Mojo as well. It was fun talking about audio, Algonquin Park and weird looking insects over a Kilkenny or two while playing around with the audiobytes.

Those cute little audiobytes sure are hefty for their diminutive size. Pretty to in the high gloss brown burled walnut. I just might have to get myself a Christmas present this year.
Posted By: jakewash Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/07/07 09:21 PM
Paul you may have to come down for a GTG when and if we do one for the EP500 and EP350 sub comparisons.

I was really surprised to see only the 2 of you there, I thought for sure Greg(framer), or Bayne would have at least helped to fill in the void with myself and Robb not being able to make it.
Posted By: terzaghi Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/07/07 09:32 PM
are you running the audiobytes off a discman?
Posted By: jakewash Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/07/07 09:38 PM
From the pic and after a quick talk with Tex, that is indeed a discman.

I'd love to come on down for the next GTG. I've been considering replacing my SVS PB10 for something more musical (like the EP500 or new EP350) for a while now. I think my defences to upgradeitis are wearing thin.

And yes, that was Amie's (or maybe Alan's) discman plugged into the back of the audiobytes amp.

You see? That plane should have stopped over in Winnipeg.
I doubt Bren and I would have had anything worthwhile doing. Oh waitaminute. BonJovi IS coming to the MTS Centre at some point.
Let me get out my best screaming teenage girl outfit.

Hi Guys,

Sorry I missed the get together. I had to go to Edmonton for the week. I asked my wife if she wold attend n my absence, but of course I got the same blank stare that I always get when I share some great comment from the Axiom board.

Amie and Paul, I think it was terrific that you would take the time to meet with some of your loyal customers. Please know that given other options more of us would have given our first born to be there (see the Tippng Towers thread, possible solution).

Come back soon.

Greg

Amie and Lara Croft (I mean Alan Lofft) were the hosts. Mojo and I were the locals with the red eyes caught on film attempting to walk off with the audiobytes.

Sorry meant Amie and Alan.
Posted By: Mojo Re: Calgary Get Together - December 6th - 12/09/07 04:18 AM
Sorry this has taken so long. A few unexpected things took priority the last couple of days.

I arrived at the Seanachie at about 4:45 and spent about 15 minutes trying to get wireless access. I found that the Seanachie had one heck of a wicked wireless password and finally I succeeded at about 5 and managed to get a half hour's worth of billable time in. Then I went on a hunt for a power receptacle and gave up just in time to find that Alan and Amie had arrived. After a couple of hugs and some exchange of pleasantries we got down to business...that being beer and dinner of course \:\) . Amie ended up with french onion soup and water, Alan with wild boar burger and a Rickard's Red and me...

<<<< slight diversion...doesn't Amie have gorgeous, silky hair \:\) ? And it must be a treat for Alan to even have hair \:D . >>>>

...with a classic pub favourite and Rickard's white since I had already imbibbed a red.

Amie, Alan and I chatted up a storm over the next hour or so and then Amie went on a hunt and found a receptacle which I so skillfully mated with the audiobyte amp's power cord. Actually, before I did that, I was completely taken by the ValSallo burled walnut audiobyte. Even though this was Alan's beat up demo unit, the fit and finish were absolutely astounding. Some have told me that photos cannot do justice to this finish and now I believe them. I'm now considering changing my decor to fit them in \:\) .

BTW, the audiobytes have an FMB mounting on the back (not shown). The magnetic grills work exceptionally well by the way and are quite sturdy. These are hefty little speakers too. I don't think anyone will find another computer speaker that is as heavy or robust.

I was so surprised to see the fit and finish of the amp! From the photos I saw on the site, the volume knob could have been mistaken for a part from my son's K'nex set only painted silver. I was really pleased to see that the knob had a wonderfully solid feel to it with just the right amount of tension. And the "power on" indicator is no idiot light as it adds just the right accent to the slightly convex faceplate. White audiobytes are shown below.

By this time PaulM came all the way from Edmonton! There's a loyal Axiom fan if I ever saw one. Paul actually wowed me with his deep knowledge of all things biological. I'm not going to gross everyone out on this particular thread but let's just say that I could have mistaken him for an exobiologist.

The set comes with an IEC-style, removable power cord that is about 6 feet long and quality cables for the speakers and I think the source as well. The amp has a jack for each speaker and the EP0 as well as an RCA jack for a powered sub. A voltage selection switch prepares the amp for off-shore locales. And of course there's a USB and mini-jack in the back for the source. The amp feels VERY solid and is weighted in the front by a transformer. There's a good chance that this is a toroid given the slight but very suitable hump on the amp's top cover. Alan connected his portable CD player and although we could certainly hear the audiobytes, this pub, with what sounded like an important hockey game on screen, was not the place for an audio audition. I did however crank the gain and didn't hear any breaking up and was pleasantly surprised by the bass that I heard. The speakers by the way do come with pads to provide some isolation and prevent scratches. From what I heard, the audiobytes don't sound like an M22 or an M3 but rather like a cross between the two but I could be wrong because like I said, there was a ton of background noise. Besides, I wanted to spend more time talking with Alan, Amie and Paul rather than listening to a piece of aluminum flapping in the breeze \:\) .

Amie was so kind and generous to bring out Axiom jerseys and caps. Now I can be a Brent Tombari look-alike \:D .

By now Alan was having a great time telling us all about audio history. I was thinking to myself that he was one beer shy of spilling all of Axiom's secrets but then I quickly convinced myself that it wouldn't be fair to take advantage of him like that. I'd hate to see him fired \:D .

I was so disappointed with how my photos of Amie turned out. In my excitement, I kept cutting off her head. I am a female connoisseur \:\) so I am qualifed to say that she is exceptionally attractive, poised, intelligent and has a bright smile that can melt away a man's pain . Ian is indeed very fortunate and they make an absolutely wonderful couple.

By this time it was almost 10:30 and Amie and Alan had an hour's drive so we parted ways with a couple of more hugs. It was a real pleasure to meet Alan and I could have listened to his stories all night long. He's very, very easy to listen to \:\) . And it was of course mon plaisir to see Amie again and I hope that I get to see Alan, Amie and Ian again soon. A trip to the factory may be in the works for me in the very near future. And Paul, you have to tell me your secret to eternal youth \:\) . Actually, the big surprise that evening was Paul's knowledge. I never thought I'd meet anyone who could identify the alien that I...oops...that's the subject of another post.
