In case some of you 8636 Axiom forum members don't know what SPL means in real life (the unadulterated, uncensored meaning), here's an in depth philosophical view on the subject:

today i watched Super 8, and not long before the train crash, when the kids were at the rail station, a girl says something like "I gave it 2 cherry bombs and i got back a M80". ;-)

And,yes, this one played very well at Reference Level.

today i watched "Super 8" again, in Blu-ray, but with the new QS8 speakers.

those surround speakers make a very big difference compared to the directional speakers i used before; and i mean it: a very big difference.
the sound is seamless front to side to back, and it all sounds very natural.

in Super 8, the train accident is so much more realistic than before.
the way it is now, it is nerve wracking enough that when the crash ended, i and my friend had to take a break to calm down. One of us had a racing heart and the other was shaking; it lasted for about 10 mins.

it was almost as if we were there, very impressive and realistic, at reference level.

All channels were crystal clear all the time, no compression, no distortion, and at times, frightening.
the soft passages and the music was also first class in reproduction quality.

the QSC GX5 that drives the front speakers (Axiom M80) consumed a maximum of 567 Watts total for the 2 front channels. the power output to the speakers must have been near that many Watts, as the amp is a very efficient class H. Cross over is at 60 Hz.

About my new QS8's, i can say without hesitation that they are a total satisfaction for me, and i could not have made a better decision.
That makes me a very happy person.

Hi J.B.,
These Axiom QS8v3 surround sound speakers are phenomenal and more !
Another movie scene you will need to take a break after watching it, is the attack scene from Pearl Harbor.
Do you have a Blu-ray of a musical show or artist ? Even better a 7.1 stage recording from AIX Records ? You will be as impressed if not more by the QS8v3.
Enjoy !

jc, i'll be looking for some music on SACD or Blu-ray in the future.
hardest will be to find some titles i'm interested in.
for a start, i will listen again to the recordings at the end of the HD music sampler on the AIX calibration disc.

if you ever come near Trois-Rivières (Shawinigan, where i live is about 20 miles north), i would appreciate a lot meeting you and would love to have you criticize the sound on my system.

J.B.
Buy the the AIX Records Sampler IV Blu-ray that will give you a great idea of the quality of the recordings and the type of musique genre offered.
AIX RECORDS SAMPLER IV BLU_RAY

I'm familiar with Shawinigan especially the "Belgo" paper mill; I'll cerainly let you know if I go up your way. The family took a few days vacations in Shawinigan a few summers ago; we visited "La Cité de l'Énergie".

the Belgo mill was shut down a couple of years ago, but you still should come over, right?
i hope that when you visited the "Cité de l'Énergie" you went to the top of the tower on a clear day.
when the athmosphere is crystal clear, one can see the bridge crossing the St-Lawrence River in Three-Rivers.
it's most beautiful in mid October.

thanks for the link; i'll buy it soon.
