I've seen Jonny twice, KWS once, and SRV 5x... too young to see Hendrix because no one would have taken an eight year old!
There was a thread awhile ago where members were listing who they've seen in concert. I'm glad I saw SRV when I did, and I've only been to maybe 12 concerts total in comparison to others here who have seen 30 or 50 bands.
I never did get the chance to see SRV, I wish I had went to his last concert at Alpine Valley Ws.I did run across a cd of that very same performane of SRV called " Peace in the Valley ".It's quite chilling knowing this was his last performance.

A friend of mine is getting us tickets to see B.B. King the 8th of Feb here at the Rialto Theater.It's a relatively small venue with around 2000 seats.Should be a great show, this will be like a dream concert to me.Big fan of Mr. King.
I've seen B.B King a few times over the years. You're really going to enjoy this one my friend. He really puts on one heck of a show.

Good imagination, Amie! I'll have Leopold Stokowski conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra players of about 1940 with Rachmaninoff himself as the soloist. The program opens with the Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances and his 1st Symphony follows. After intermission Rachmaninoff is at the piano for his 3rd Piano Concerto. Then of course, the audience will demand that Rachmaninoff play his Prelude in C-Sharp Minor as an encore.
Marilyn Monroe would make a guest appearance at my dream concert, wishing me a happy birthday.

After all the guests have gone, David Foster appears with just piano, and we sit in Muskoka chairs contemplating the stars while he plays the night away.
Sighhhh. It was the best concert dream I've ever had.

As far as contemporary bands and "dinosaurs" I guess I've seen who I want to see.
This is an easy one. Early morning kayaking on Bowman Lake with loons calling in the distance and paddles quietly dipping into the misty waters.
I hear this every morning for two months while working in Glacier Park. No concert or stereo system can ever match this.
Glacier National - I haven't been there in 10 years. How tough is it to get a backcountry permit these days? This park is the most beautiful area of the United States in my opinion. So as not to completely hijack the thread: My dream concert would be Charlie Parker and Miles Davis performing in a New York Club (or as an alternative, Louis Armstrong in a jazz joint in New Orleans).

I have a fairly rare 2 CD live set of the Kinks. It is no longer available to buy. It is not a bootleg either, top quality. It includes "Everybody come dancin" as well as a ton of excellent old Kinks stuff done live.
If you want I could burn and send you off a little present.
Glad to find another Kinks fan! I saw them twice, and then I was able to catch Ray Davies on the Storyteller tour.
And you're absolutely right -- their shows were easily among the most fun I've had. Both were outdoor shows, and both were on horrendously rainy nights. In fact, the show in Santa Fe was cancelled and rescheduled in Albuquerque a couple of weeks later because it was so bad. No such luck in Atlanta, though. But I can't tell you what a kick it was to be sitting in Chastain Park, soaked to the bone with a stupid smile on my face and singing along with Ray and Dave while they delivered a full rendition of "Singing in the Rain". And I'm also not sure how I would have made it through high school without my copies of
Muswell Hillbillies or
Lola vs. Powerman & the Moneygoround.
Wow! The Kinks, that sure brings back memories of cruising around back in High School, drinking a few cold barley pops, and cranking my Alpine stereo. I sure miss those days...

Bright Eyes - i get the feeling that i may never have a chance to see him in Saskatoon. An all acoustic set would be amazing
Pearl Jam - can't see these guys too many times, they seem to be getting better with age, though would have been fun to see them just as they were breaking with Ten
Others - Fiery Furnaces, Arcade Fire (sold out before i could get tickets
), Apples in Stereo, Supergrass, White Stripes, Radiohead, Spoon, New Pornographers, etc, etc. I'd better stop, could think of a million.
I was fortunate enough to see Radiohead while they stopped here in August of 2003. The show was simply phenomenal. I would certainly see them again if they come back.
I say if because Salt Lake City is not a major stop for a lot of bands. The previous time Radiohead was here was in 1993.
Anyway, if you are even remotely a fan go and see them if you get the chance.
I saw Bright Eyes in October at the Bridge School Benefit Concert outside San Francisco. Emmylou Harris did a few songs with him. Very excellent! I'd definitely see him/them again.
Peter/David, both of you are quite lucky, chances are slim of seeing either of those performers in N Sask any time soon. I have been able to enjoy live performances of both on DVD/TV so that was nice - though certainly less enjoyable than the real thing.
Is it just me or does anyone else think Connor Oberst is the greatest songwriter today???
He's pretty damn close, if not the best. But then again, I don't find his political views offensive.
I would choose the following Stevie ray vaughn, deep purple,jimi hendrix, and ccr. Obviously many many more but these would be at the top of my list. No particular order just all of them playing in the same venue would be amazing

I just came back from my dream concert. I saw U2 live at St. Louis. All I can say is, I can die a happy man.
If I had a time machine I would like to go back and see Freddy Mercury and Queen performing at Live Aid. I watched it on tv. There was a lot of energy there.
I was lucky enough to see the Ramones in 1988 at The Musical Moon in Tallahassee, Florida. But regret that I never saw the Clash.
How about Floyd touring DSOTM/King Crimson touring 21st schizoid and Zeppelin and throw in Merciful Fate for some heaviness for a 12 hour show.
My dream concert would be staged in my home, with just me and the artists. The artists would include Shania Twain, Mindy McCready, Deana Carter and Michelle Branch. The props would be a big jug of babby oil and latex. ……………I better stop with this dream.

Saw them many times, and played in a show with them before and saw them twice after they became the poster-boys for "grunge." The best ever was a New Years Eve show at the Satyricon here in PDX which was a CBGB-type venue. This was after they were signed by Geffen but just before they blew up. Played with them at the Off-Ramp in Seattle about 8 months before that. They were in a truly different plane as far as electricity in their performance back then. The last time I saw them in PDX KC was just a shell standing at the mike. F!cking tragic.
hey that's awesome Mark! What sort of a band did you play with at the time? I can't even imagine how exciting a time that must have been.
The band I was in at the time was kind of a goofy nerd-rock thing. We had songs with titles like "Cajun Chipmunk Head Mush." There was an unbelievable explosion in the NW starting around 88/89 or so, but it had been simmering for a few years before that. People only remember the "grunge" kings like Nirvana or Pearl Jam (Mookie Blaylock is how they are remembered here) but you could go to a show any night of the week and see 3,4,5 bands that had completely different styles. Everybody knew and supported each other. I also mixed FOH at a couple of places in town which was a great way to see acts from all over the place. I got stuck doing Wednesday "New Band Night" at Belmont's Inn for a few months. One of the bands that played almost every Wednesday was Everclear. They went on to slightly bigger things. Being in the community plus being a "sound guy" had the advantage of almost NEVER having to pay for shows. I saw all of the NW acts plus Belly, Alanis Morissette (in a medium-sized club maybe 2 or 3 weeks after her album was released), Fishbone a few times, Green Day (in the smaller upstairs "living room" section of LaLuna just before their album was released), Lenny Kravitz, Weezer, and just a whole bunch more for free. It was a great time. Funny thing is the band that had the most buzz locally never really made it. That was Mudhoney. One note: The term "Grunge" was ALWAYS said with a derisive sneer in the NW. The term "Alternative" reached that status eventually as well. By the time Nordstom's started stocking Doc Martens and pre-ripped jeans the whole thing had already become a joke.
interesting story Mark, thanks for sharing. I guess you are right that Mudhoney didn't really "make it big" to the level that a PJ or Nirvana did, but were still as highly critically acclaimed as either of them. Tough to not think of Grunge/Alternative without considering Mudhoney as pioneers. Touch Me I'm Sick is, without a doubt, one of the greatest songs of all time.

Yes it is! THAT song really represented the scene more than any other, which is why Mudhoney is revered above most around here.
