Am I thinking of this in the correct way? Take the ADA 1500, it says total RMS power available to all channels is 1500 watts. Does that mean the the power available is the same regardless of the number of channels in the amp? So if it were two channels, it would be 750 per channel but if it were the 8 channel amp it would be only 187.50 watts available RMS per channel. It's been a long time since I took physics so my memory on calculating that is off. I know it would also vary per channel depending on the impedance of the speakers.

That was right in line with what I was thinking except I didn't cap the max for one or two channels at the rated RMS per channel, 650 watts.
