Yea new products are always exciting. I was thinking they would mention the Sherwood thing. looks like this EP400 is smaller than an EP350, but with the amp and circuitry of the EP500, $100 less than the EP500 price ? ( not including the 20%)
just noticed it has an 8" woofer. Maybe this falls in the category "Size doesnt matter, it's how you use it " ??
heres what got me going though in the newsletter.. If I had the cash I would get the Epic 60 - 500 in Cherry Chestnut Satin
my mind keeps saying ... click add to cart .. ... click add to cart ... ... sell the stuff you have ... ... click add to cart ...
I just cant see my way to it though. hopefully someone will get it soon to relieve the pressure.
Randy

I was pleasantly surprised to see the EP400. It's always fun to have new products available. Can't wait for "more advance notice of new products" in the upcoming newsletter.

I think I might have been the first to designate the "EP-400" name. Do I win one? Maybe my room won't suck as much!

Mark, you're correct, and I remember well your suggestion here that undoubtedly inspired Ian to go forward with the project. I'd have little doubt that you'd be the winner of the new EP400 except for concerns about the suckiness of your room. If you were to run more of the frequency graphs similar to those you've had the nerve to display here in the past, even as superb a sub as the EP400 might be embarrassed if asked to perform under such conditions. Possibly if you promised Ian that you'd never publish your room results again, he might feel confident in sending one right out to you.

The Axiom Owner's Club came into being last summer. Amie worked really hard going through years of accumulated data and finally sending an e-mail invitation to as many Axiom owners as she could. Those who "opted in" created the core group of the Owner's Club. Does that mean the rest of you are out of luck? No, we will be extending an invitation in the near future to the newer Axiom owners, giving you all an opportunity to join.

I would SO do that as a return favor!
For their diminutive size, though, I'll bet that two of them (with careful placement) would allow me to produce the most glorious before-and-after graphs ever as testimony to the EP-400's ability to overcome difficult, yet common, small room problems!

I'll finally be ready to pull the trigger and order my Axioms in a couple of months (when my house is finished). Will all these super-secret offers be available then, or do I have to wait even longer?! Or will someone be kind enough to let me in on the secrets ...

I love that Cherry-Chestnut Epic60-500 system... The Cherry-Bordeaux or Cherry-Chestnut have been my favorite VaSSallo's since they've been introduced. To see the entire system in a picture - WOW!
The EP400 sounds like an amazing piece of kit, except for the price. I wonder how many people will opt for it instead of the EP500 with such a small price differential. The WAF is better, though...
Great job Axiom!

The price point had me considering that the amp with DSP was the primary cost component, more so than the woofer and enclosure.

The EP400 and EP500 are near enough the same price point, that if floor space and size aren't a concern, you'd just buy the EP500. I am guessing that Axiom is targeting this to those that find the smaller form factor is of greater importance over saving money on something that doesn't perform as well. Just as in the spy world, the smaller gadgets are cooler, and sometimes worth a little extra cost.

If it was under $1000 retail I think I would be more interested, I am still leaning toward the 500 for me, size is not an issue.

I think it will be even a harder sell in the states seeing what other companies are offering for far less money. In Canada the other offering are much more exspensive compared to here.

I think if they just removed the 350 and put the 400 in its price range then it would sell easily, especially with those specs and size.

Even if you dismiss the large R&D costs, I'm pretty sure you're right Randy. When I was at the plant a little over a year ago, there was only one guy building the amps by HAND.

I didn't get the newsletter,
but only $100 less than the EP500? for an 8" driver?
I am dissapointed that they aren't releasing a sub around the $700 mark for those that a flip flopping between SVS's cheaper options that seem to perform extreamly well, not to mention the new VTF-3 MK3 that is said to outperform the EP500 (but little margain) and only costs I think $700?
The only reason for dissapointment is not because I am in the market, I just want them (Axiom) to do well in the $700 sub market.

They were playing with that concept when I was at the factory as it makes sense to have all of the same style amps in all of the products. But, cost/performance and overlapping of products are all factors...

The EP400 was produced to fill a specific need that was being requested of us over and over. This was to pack real sub-woofer performance into the smallest possible enclosure. It was not created to be a cheaper version of the EP500 and in fact if you do not have any concern over the enclosure size then the EP500 would be the way to go. If our goal was to bring out a less expensive EP500 then we would definitely utilize a larger enclosure. Adding to enclosure size is an inexpensive way (to a point) of boosting a sub’s performance without having to spend more on the sub’s amp and driver technologies. So really are you asking us if we could revisit the EP350 and see if we could boost its performance by adding about $50 to the selling price? That sounds like it might be a good idea.

If you get get the 350 to a price point where its performance rivals its competitors in the same price range, I think more people would opt for the 350. Sort of a less powerfull EP500, goes down to 20hz but not nearly as loud as the EP500. I am not sure of how the logistics work with how much things cost so I am not sure how that would work.
If increasing the cabinet size of the 350 would allow it to extend down to 20hz, I think you would have a real winner.

Just look at the SVS PB-12...that thing is a monster and it has had great ratings from sub enthusiasts, people are willing buy a bigger sized sub for cheaper to get better performance.

Actually, you guy's may be on to something. How many times have we heard "I'm in a small appartment/townhouse now, but at the next house......." OR, "I'd love the 500 but I don't have the funds......"
Isn't the EP350 already using the driver from the 500? Why not just use the 500's enclosure as well? This will cut down having to build 2 separate boxes, and should only bump up the cost minimally. Keep the existing amp, but give the option of upgrading to the EP500 amp down the road.
This allows the person to "up" the performance of their system without having to swap out the entire sub.

Not to doom this train of thought but to my mind it makes sense. EP350 Subwoofer Dimensions HWD inches : 19.5" x 15" x 15" 200 Watts EP500 Subwoofer Dimensions HWD inches : 19.5" x 15" x 19.5" 500 Watts What IF, as real80sman suggested, the 350 moved up to the 500's enclosure but kept it's 200 Watt Amp, that could be upgradeable to the 500's amp at a later date? This would mean one less enclosure size for Axiom to build and a very easy upgrade path for us customers. Consider this a pat on the back, now we can wait for reality to set in .

Well if they start selling the amp with DSP separately, could the DSP profile be modified via the usb port to accomodate DIY enclosures. That would be cool to the DIY crowd, but not sure how big that crowd is. I built a couple subwoofer enclosures for the trunk of my car, and even had one in my living room way back, but today I want something that has the refined axiom look to it Randy

I'd be afraid to let the DIYer do anything with my tech. "OmGzz!!1!one! Teh Axion amp sux0rs i made a totaly pro sub boxthing out of cardbored an it sounds like siht compaired to my freinds kikker in his ford fokus" Bren R.

I'm all for this idea. In the very near future, probably within the year, we will be selling our EP350 and moving up to the EP500. I like the EP350, but it really does fall short of my expectations. I think the EP500 might be what i was really looking for all along.

>>So really are you asking us if we could revisit the EP350 and see if we could boost its performance by adding about $50 to the selling price? That sounds like it might be a good idea. Exactly. "My" EP400 was always the EP350 in the EP500 enclosure for a lower tune point but otherwise largely unchanged. Positioning-wise, IMO the main midrange HT "sweet spot" is deep bass at moderate volumes at a good price. I'm actually kinda glad you used EP400 for the "high end small enclosure" product (which looks great by the way !!), now we can use "EP350 V3" for the "EP350 in a bigger box" product
