Anyone near Peterborough Ontario with M80s? Preferably no further than an hour away.

Thanks

Wheelz, in the list at the beginning of the Auditioning thread pizoni is listed in Whitby, but he hasn't posted in almost two years. He may no longer participate or may be difficult to contact. You might contact Amie or Andrea at Axiom for assistance in making contact or learning of someone who might not be on the list. Still another possibility to consider is that you're not all that far from Axiom itself if you're willing to take a trip.

If I was that close to Axiom, I would never worry about auditioning at someones house, that would be awesome. \:\)

Wheelz,
I've got your email and I'd be glad to help you-if you can wait a few more days...I have a flu right now...I think Saturday ,20 October(any time in the morning ) we can meet, just email me back if you agree.

Just for your information, there is an Audio/Video store in DORSET , a very small town 15 minutes away from DWIGHT where you can see the whole line of Axiom products...I was there in September...

My best regards to everybody !

Why stop in a store when 15 min more you get the whole factory!

Thanks for everyone's help. Three hours is a long hall from me in my wheelchair, and that's only one way. I contacted a Axiom member who is a denizen of Whitby which is much closer and has M80s but his home theater is located in the basement and my electric wheelchair doesn't do stairs :-). Although he was very magnanimous, and willing to help in any way possible but things won't work out. Hopefully this price drop will continue until the end of the month because the only way I can test them is to audition them for myself. I can't see me sending them back anyway :-).

Wheelz,

Have you read any of our posts on M60s running in parallel with M22s (M82s)?

No I haven't. I will take a look for those posts. I listen to loud music. Would this setup be recommended instead of the M80s?

Thanks again for your help Mojo.

Here's the link.

Sound pressure-wise, there is no practical difference between M80s and M82s. And the beautiful thing is, you can connect them A+B and if you have music that isn't well-recorded, you can shut off the M22s and enjoy the M60s' more forgiving and laid back sound.

I listened to a lot of burnt CDs, which obviously aren't excellent recordings. I would imagine that the M22s will be too revealing, therefore I would probably be better with M80s. Do you concur with this assumption? I love your suggestion but I wouldn't want to have to rely on the M60s the majority of the time and miss out on the beauty of the M22s.

You definitely would be better off with the 80s than the 22s.

However, I don't believe copied CDs sound any different than the source CDs.

Not copied CDs, but rather mixed CDs created from legally downloaded MP3s.

They shouldn't be that bad... what bitrate are we talking here? I use an iPod as a source for my M80s, with mp3s and aacs, generally around 160k to 320k.

They are actually wave files with various bitrates. My 300 disc Sony carousel doesn't play MP3s. Go figure, brand new and still old technology :-). I find that so many burnt CDs are inconsistent with the song quality, even per song on the same CD. My current Paradigm monitor 9's really enunciate this.

If you are interested in doing a lot of streaming, I have been using a SoundBridge M1001 for the past six months and it is really, really good (supports LAN and Wi-Fi).

The only drawback is that, as soon as I had my M80, I started to hear a difference between 320Kbps and lossless... so I had to re-scan my whole 800CDs collection! Darn those M80s and the additional work they generate!! \:D

For streaming from my computer to my stereo (upstairs to downstairs) I use the following.

Sounds nice, but I really like that I control playback from my living room through the UI of the SoundBridge. The SB is more expensive though...

When I want to really listen I grab the cd and throw it in, otherwise its just background music and 320k sounds good enough, a little more detailed than FM radio, but good enough to fill the house.

I guess I have lower standards than the rest of you, or something. If I'm doing critical listening, sure, I'll throw in the CD, but the ripped stuff sounds about 10000x better than FM radio--even if it is at the 'orrible 'orrible low bitrate.

I use AppleLossless when I have the original CD. I got too spoiled with the iPod and now all my CDs are in storage and use the SoundBridge remote to select and play.
