It's 4 in the morning with the Beatles White Album on (headphones of course). I had to get up early to put a brisket on the smoker.

I've heard the name mentioned, but I forgot to look into them. Good stuff?

I like them a lot. Not your typical J-Pop girl group more J-Rock. Actually, I’d be hard pressed to classify them which is why I like them. They often borrow from other groups sounds so they sound comfortably familiar but they blend it with there own style. Here are a couple of links that can do more justice explaining than I can.
Wiki I like all their CDs but “Nice” and “An Illustrated History” are my favorites (“Nice” being tops). Nice An Illustrated History I first noticed them from their cartoon “Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi.” It was a tad energetic and colorful and much funnier than it had any right to be, animated similar to the “Power Puff Girls.” (Ok, I’m big into cartoons).

Oh, right, I remember my sister mentioning the cartoon and saying I should look up their music, and the son of a former coworker actually got to meet them.

Also, you seem to like them because they're not typical J-Pop, but does anyone have any recommendations for good J-Pop-or-whatever music? I could use some more fun music to be ashamed of listening to.

These are some groups that I like and one at the end that typifies what I don‘t like in Jpop.
Puffy Ami Yumi Jpop, Jrock + My favorite Japanese group. Boom Boom Satellites more Jrockish they do songs on the Anime “Appleseed” an excellent HT movie and soundtrack IMO. Unicorn Table also Jpop. L'Arc~en~Ciel more Jrock but also considered Jpop Blankey Jet City not Jpop but more punkish. Here’s an example of Jpop I avoid: 3nin Matsuri

Oh, I had the little Boom Boom Satellites sampler that came with the version of Appleseed that I got, but I gave it to my brother-in-law. I'll have to look all of those up. Thanks!
