This may be a silly question because I've never used a SPL meter but I was using the AVIA DVD to calibrate my M60s the other day and noticed that the left speaker seemed to always be 1 db lower than the right. I was sitting directly between the speakers about 8 feet in front of them. I adjusted the amp and balanced them with no problem. Is this normal? I checked the cables and everything to make sure all the connections were good. I wondered if the positioning of the speakers could cause this too. One speaker (the louder one) is closer to the corner (about 3 feet away) and the other one is along a straight way.

Hi JamesT,

There could be a number of variables at work here, but the most likely explanation is the reinforcing effects that the adjacent surfaces have on the speaker nearest the corner. I'm actually surprised that the difference isn't greater.

The analog audio output of DVD players and CD players should be spec'd to 2 volts, but there can be significant variations between channels sometimes, which may account for such differences.

Try reversing channels on your speaker connections to see if the disparity in output remains with the left speaker. If it does, I'm certain it's boundary effects at work.

Hello, James T.
I'm looking at either the M60s or M80s. How do you like the
M60s?
Thanks,

I've only had them about a week now but I really love them. The bass is tight and the midrange sounds really sweet. They are an amazing speaker for the price. I'm using mine with a Denon 2802 receiver and it provides plenty of power. I'm sure the M80s are equally impressive but they were a little more than what I had budgeted for front speakers. I can hardly wait to get some Axiom surrounds and a center.

James

I've had my M60s about 2 months, and they are still awesome! The problem is, music is so much more distracting now, I can't ever seem to get anything done around the house!
