Start her out with WWII psychological drama/love story movies like Eye Of The Needle (a good spy drama) or So Proudly We Hail (a really good story about nurses on Bataan) or The Human Comedy (a very emotional drama about the home front. Bring a box of kleenex).

There is an old WWII movie (B&W) that I have only seen once years ago. Set on a Japanese held island - lots of caves. I can't even remember who the cast was - what I do remember is that a big deal was made out of the handling of the dog tags for the KIA's. They place the Tag in the mouth longways between the upper and lower teeth stating that was the best way to insure that the tags did not get lost. Does that ring any bells?

Don't forget the all time classic, "Das Boot," (the original version,) although I'm betting you didn't.
I also liked "A Bridge to Far" although it was a bit more 'Hollywoody' compared to others listed so far.

Thanks for the welcomes back and the movie ideas... wrote them down to take to the video store with me.
Been watching a good deal of them... sometimes theme nights... like U-571, Run Silent Run Deep and Das Boot all in a night (with a sub sandwich for supper)... my last pile was supposed to be a Lee Marvin set, but the only one available was the Dirty Dozen (with a bonus disc of the made for TV sequel... that lasted 15 minutes before I turned it off) By memory, I've had: Johnny Got His Gun, Apocalypse Now, Platoon, U-571, Das Boot, Run Silent Run Deep, Pork Chop Hill, Hamburger Hill, Flying Tigers, M*A*S*H, A Bridge Too Far, Tora Tora Tora, Black Hawk Down, All Quiet on the Western Front, Enemy at the Gates, Great Escape, Dirty Dozen, Three Kings, Full Metal Jacket, Bridge on the River Kwai, Shaving Ryan's Privates, and probably a few dozen more I tried to forget. Not exactly, but the Japanese surrender on the deck of the U.S.S. Missouri took place less than 90 days before my birth, so it was certainly considered recent history during my formative years.
