My pre-Dwight plans have modified a bit.

Joyce has always wanted to see Niagara Falls, So she's going to ride with me to there. We'll spend a day and a half there, and then she'll fly home out of Buffalo while I continue to Dwight.

Cool! Having grown up so close, I overlook Niagra as a destination, but the falls really are very impressive.

Honestly, I've always seen Niagara Falls as something of a kitschy tourist-trap. Not that I've ever been there to give it a fair shot.... rather, it's that impression that has cause me never to go there.

Joyce has always wanted to go, though......

So I'll drop her off Thursday afternoon and go on to Dwight as scheduled, and drive home the Northern route to see if Canada is better than New York! smile

Awesome! I was just there in late June. You can feel the powah of da watahs! Err, sorry.

I didn't go to the Canadian side, but was told the view is much better from there. I also didn't do the Maid of the Mist boat ride. That's probably the best way to experience the falls.

The town itself is kitch, but the falls are impressive. The gardens on the Canadian side are nice if you like that sort of thing.

Northern New York (and PA) is beautiful as I found out after my awesome navigator training failed (here son, you're navigating. Tell me when the next turn is).

Yes there is a touristy aspect to Niagara Falls which is bothersome. However, I found the falls themselves to be absolutely spectacular and a real marvel. There is an energy, an aura about them that is hard to classify. I loved them.

I kept thinking about the very first human being who saw them. He/she,initially, probably became aware of them by hearing this ominous roaring from a long distance away. Then, after walking that long distance, taking who knows how long, he/she parted some greenery and gazed upon one of the greatest wonders of the world. Had to be a stunning moment.

Stunning until you consider how brown their loincloth became.

Living close by, I've been to the falls on many occasion. Maid of the mist is a MUST. Go to the front of the boat and stay there. It shouldn't be too busy that time of year as well, little kiddies are back in school. If $$$$ isn't an issue, the helo ride is also recommended. You get a very nice panoramic of the falls, the river, city of Buffalo and Canada. Maybe if you tip the pilot he'll give you a Molson.

All the times I have been to the falls, I have never been on the maid of the mist. Guess I'll have to go again.

All the times I've been to Canada, I've never been past Toronto. Looking forward to Dwight and maybe a nice pair of M22's high-gloss cherry veneer waiting for me.
