The android app for the bdp 93 and up players is now available from google play if anyone is interested.
Also , hopefully oppo has put an led behind the eject button on the newest player. This is a real annoyance though the app will help now. It seems they made alot of changes and improvements and upgrades yet the price is the same as it was when i bought mine. very impressive |

I also may be in the market for an oppo within the next couple of months, and will take a good hard look at their product line. But I'm curious as too another player or two that one might consider as well. If the oppo is the Cadillac, what might be the Buick?

Gary, Oppo is like the Rolls Royce... the next step is a cadalic/buick... there was a high end company that put a bd83 inside of their own case and sold it under their name... a 500$ player inside another companies shell being sold for 3,000ish$$..... Denon would be the next option, but in my opinion, i wouldn't bother with anyone elses product other than oppo... oppo designs/manufacturers the chips and everyone else buys their chips... who's gonna hae the best stuff first......?
Also, for 500$ the 103 is an expensive player, but i think they are finally getting to the point that the upgrade cycle will be longer... my BD83 has been a great machine and the main reason for my upgrade is netflix, as well as balanced connectivity... also the new chips will be nice as well.... |

Alex I've done a little research since first posting here and agree with you wholeheartedly. Their feature set really did blow me away, especially 4K up scaling. I see a 103 in my future.

It was Lexicon that got all the bad press for that move. They've been smart enough to discontinue the player, and not pull that stunt again. http://www.lexicon.com/Products/Details/16 Someone should have ridiculed Theta Digital, because they're still selling dressed up '83 for $3000. http://www.thetadigital.com/compli_blu_info.shtml

As already mentioned, the company was "Lexicon" and I believe Audioholics exposed them for their dastardly deeds. They tried to sell everyone on the idea that they changed some of the innards and "upgraded" them, however, when a further investigation was made and the Lexicon was taken apart, they couldn't find any real meaningful difference in the internal layout. By the way, they wanted $3600 for it, probably, just because the Lexicon name was on the front panel. If a so-called "high-end" company is using Oppo's products as its base design, one might as well buy the Oppo for a lot less money. Edited by casey01 (10/15/12 11:20 AM) |

Mine is the BDP-93 model. I've had it around a year, or a little less. I play an average of about 1.5 movies a day. Also, I keep my firmware up to date on all my equipment. It played all of my disks, but if it gets locked up, then unplugging it and plugging it back in resets it and it works fine again. The last time it locked up on me was last week.
I might try one of the newer models, and just assume I currently have a dud. Then if it also starts acting up on me, well, it'll definitely be the last OPPO I buy. Edited by CatBrat (10/15/12 11:35 AM)

Prior to purchasing my "95", I had a BDP83(that I ultimately sold) which after about a year, started to have problems playing one particular disc which although I didn't have a "lock-up" issue it just wouldn't read it and start to play as normal. After E-Mailing Oppo tech, they advised to clear any of the internal storage which, in my case, ultimately solved the problem. Of course, like computers, with any software based equipment, issues sometimes can never be 100% corrected. Edited by casey01 (10/15/12 11:48 AM) |
