Based on the stellar accolades of the LFR1100 omnidirectional speakers from both our customers and professional reviewers we have developed a matching omnidirectional center channel; the LFR180. It is available in both standard and High Powered versions. If you have a large room and big amplification like our ADA1500 amplifier you will want to select the High Powered version. The entire LFR series is the brainchild of Andrew Welker and Ian Colquhoun, this omnidirectional wonder solves the problem of typical bipole or dipole speakers: they typically provide incredible depth of soundstage, but images tend to be ill-defined and washed-out.
By using separate amplifier channels for the front and rear of each LFR speaker and a sophisticated DSP (Digital Signal Processor) to independently control what is being sent to the front and rear we can achieve both an incredible depth of soundstage while maintaining pinpoint imagery. The LFR series is also capable of maintaining this depth and accuracy of imagery all over your room; the sweet-spot is not everywhere.

The LFR180 front baffle features two 6.5-inch woofers, two 5.25-inch midrange/woofers, and two 1-inch tweeters. The rear baffle adds two vortex ports, two more 5.25-inch midrange/woofer, and two more 1-inch tweeter. The rear driver compliment is evenly divided on each side of the angled rear baffle. It requires two channels of amplification to drive these speakers: one for the front and one for the rear. The DSP included with the LFR180 separates the front and rear channels from the single center channel input coming from you processor. The DSP included is in a stand-alone case that sits between your processor and your amplifier. There are two types of DSPs available. The DSP1 has a choice of either High Level or RCA inputs with RCA outputs. The DSP2 accepts both RCA and balanced XLR inputs and outputs.
Why a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) for the LFR180?
In order to get optimal integration between the front and rear drivers each set of drivers needs to have a very unique set of amplitude response curves. This isn't possible to do with a passive network, so we employ the power of a DSP to ensure we end up with the desired family of curves measured all the way around the speaker. This ensures complete control over the midrange fidelity of the omnidirectional speaker, and keeps it from suffering from a lack of image focus or spectral neutrality which is so often a problem with omnidirectional designs. The DSP tailors phase response between the front and back sections, as well as the amplitude response characteristics.
