My AV room

This is where i go through the sound barrier.
C'est ici que je traverse le mur du son.

There are heavy drapes and blinds that
normally cover the window on the right,
and sound diffusing/absorbing material
behind every curtain; also 2 book cases
on the back wall serve as a diffuser.

Normalement, il y a des draperies épaisses et des stores vénitiens sur la fenêtre à droite, et des matériaux absorbants/diffusants derrière chaque rideau; aussi 2 bibliothèques sur le mur arrière servent de diffuseurs.

Surround speakers are not shown.
Haut parleurs "surround" ne sont pas montrés.

Equipment:

Front speakers: Axiom M80 v3;
Surround speakers: 2 Axiom QS8 (side)
+ 2 R.S. Minimus 7 (back)(facing back wall);
Subwoofer: SVS PC12 Plus - (Tuned to 11 Hz);
Amplifier: QSC GX5 (front)
Amplifier: QSC GX5; (side surround)
AVR: Marantz SR5005 (back surround amp); Univ. player: Oppo BDP83;
TV/monitor: Elite PRO-950hd Kuro
SPL meter: Shimana SHGLSL021
Audio Freq. Analyzer: Technics SH-8000
Room size: approx. 9 ft. x 9 ft. x 16 ft.

yesterday i added a second sub, a SVS PC13-Ultra.

i put the small PC12-Plus in the left hand corner and
the new one in the right hand corner.

when sitting down at the MLP, i was surprised that the right sub really
looks like a tower, being much taller than i am.

Gotta love the Radio Shack Minimus 7s in the rear.
Oddly, i also own a pair.
Sitting in a box right now, not really sure what, if ever, i will do with them.

i use those Minimus 7's for rear surrounds.

in order to get both direct and reflected sound from them, i faced both speakers towards the back wall at a distance of around 7-8 inches. it gives good results this way, they blend quite well with the side QS8's. they're connected to the Marantz outputs and 100 Watts/ch is ok for them.

2 subs will not play louder on music or movies, but the distortion will be lower and they will give me more headroom.

i calibrated the larger sub 3 dB higher (like 76 dB for the PC13, and 73 dB for the PC 12) than the smaller one, to equalize the load according to which is the stronger sub, and by how much.

otherwise, if i had calibrated each to 75 db, when playing very loud, the small one could be at the limit and the larger one still well within it's capability.

also, the frequencies around 16-20 Hz should be stronger, but i don't know that for sure at the moment.

N.B.: one thing i found very weird is after i sent a separate signal to each sub in succession to calibrate the sensitivity,
i then switched on both subs and the SPL went down by about 7 dB instead of increasing.
i scratched my head for 7:34 mins, and found that adjusting the phase on one of the subs restored everything to normal.

I've posted a new photo of my HT room that
shows the equipment as seen from the MLP.

For those who would like to see it, just click here
and it will magically appear:

yesterday someone came here for a listen to some music and movie demo.
what i remember best among the remarks said at the end is that "it is a holodeck you have here."

:-) :-) :-)
