Put an expensive leather couch in the same room as the speakers. I guarantee they'll go for that instead just so your wife can threaten to end one of their lives for them.
At least the 24-lb racoon-cat hybrid acts like that.
Nothing actually animal proofs it although I've had limited luck with the furniture oil on veneer finishes. On the vinyl veneer of my EP500 they just leave it alone for some reason. The screens are another matter though - gotta leave them on to protect the cones but they get a trashing.
