The 12-volt trigger mutes the output to the woofer (or un-mutes it). It does not do a "hard AC off" that would occur if you switched the power-off switch on the back of the subwoofer.

What ambient temperature is the room where the subwoofer is?

The amp plate should not get "very warm" in Standby; warm, yes, but not so much as to heat up the MDF. I don't turn on my air conditioning until the temperature in my living room rises to 80 degrees F (or if the humidity is very high), when I get uncomfortable. Under those conditions, the amp plate is warm but never more than that.

You could have a fault in the amp, in which case you should email debbie@axiomaudio.com , our service manager, and describe the symptoms.
