There is no need for extra eq if you have YPAO. It would be great if it would eq more bands but for average home set ups I think it does a amazing job and couldn't be simpler.
If you use external eq, why have the 1400 at all? Besides, with an external eq you would also need to buy or rent a Real-time analyzer unless you bought something like the TacT T or Berhinger.
While there could very well be a problem with your 1400, I can't help but beleive that there must be some setting, buried somewhere in the set-up menus/programs that is being over looked.
