I went to a local high end store and listened to the Mirage OM-9's alone in pair and also in surround with the the matching center and surround. The source was the Yamaha rx-v2400. I had always heard about the omnipolar design of the mirage and how they disperse sound 360degrees, but was skeptical. I was stunned at how nice the pair sounded in stereo. The sound engulfed me completely. I had to get up three times, not kidding, three times to make sure the surrounds and the sub were off. With my eyes closed I felt that the jazz ensamble was right there in the room. The imaging was wonderful. The highs, and midrange cystal clear. And the bass strings sounded wonderful. Then they switched to full surround with star wars, and again nothing short of amazing. I had been doing a lot of searching and had pretty much decided on the Axiom M80's, VP150, and the QS8's. But of course I have never heard them, just going by the comments and reviews. The OM-9's are $1300/pair not far from the M80's and that is full MSRP. The center and surround were also roughly the same. Now I want to know if anybody has listened to both the Mirage OM series and how they would compared them to the axioms M80's. I would really like to know. Mirage also gives the 5-year warranty and from what they say they defintely stand behind their products. I would love to hear any inputs from people on this board.
