Larry, the answer to that can also vary. DPLIIz allows you to use the channels usually fed back surround material to instead assign them to "height" speakers positioned a few feet above your mains. It's said to be an especially useful alternative for those sitting almost up against the back wall who don't have enough room behind them for a rear surround effect to develop. The height speakers are fed non-directional ambience material extracted from other channels which is said to generally represent effects best heard from an upward angle. Early reports have varied(possibly mostly due to varying source material)as to the effect, although some are enthusiastic.
