Mostly because I took the photo and I like it.
It's a $1.89 million, 1.65mw (~500 homes) wind turbine located in a nearby town. They're quite proud of it, and I just think it's an interesting structure. Both technically and aesthetically.

No, but if I had the means (enough property, appropriate location, the money) to put up my own personal turbine, I'd do it. Of all the current alternative/"green" electricity-generating methods, I think wind energy holds great promise for the future. Especially around here, as my state (Illinois) is said to have tremendous wind-energy potential. And while some people find them aesthetically displeasing, I think they're actually kind of beautiful.
