The opposite may be the case. As you move the speakers closer to the back wall or corner the bass will be increased. Room nodes can be a reality, the question is does the bass increase if you move into the middle of the room? If it does then you may be facing a "dead" spot in the room but moving the speakers closer to the wall or corner will help a lot. Also you should check your phasing to ensure the speakers are wired to the amplifier positive to positive and negative to negative.
