Actually defense counsel had proposed that the court suspend the imposition of sentence and place the defendant on probation on condition that he undergo a series of double-blind sessions to cure him of his delusions. The judge agreed that might be effective, but believed that the offense was serious enough to require a period of incarceration. Note that if he continues to show improvement the possibility of shock parole exists.
