Just had a bit of a scare thinking there was something wrong with my Onkyo. I put in a 2ch source that defaulted the receiver to 2ch playback but could only very faintly hear the right main and that was with my ear right up next to it. Did some troubleshooting to rule out other causes and it came down to the receiver or the speaker, or so I thought.

When I laid down the right main to disconnect the wires (bare 12 gauge)to swap it out with the left main one of wires had come almost completely loose but was just touching the binding post. So I tightened it up and everything worked fine.

I’ve always moved my speakers around to vacuum but never had this problem in 5 years with 14 or 16 gauge wire so I’m not sure if the bigger size was the issue or I just didn’t tighten the post enough (I checked the others and all were tight).

While the audio dropout was only a minor problem quickly remedied had the wires shorted it could have been a much bigger issue.
