You could also combine your switch and gaming adapter if they are co-located. Get a wifi router and connect it via wifi to your existing network and then use the wired ports. This pretty much allows you to have wired ports where there is no CAT5. It's a similar idea to that gaming adapter but w/ more ports.

I use my Airport Express for the same purpose. Another use for the Express or your gaming adapter, take it on the road when you travel. When you are at a hotel that only provides you w/ 1 wired port in your room (for which you pay daily for ONE connection), connect the gaming adapter to that port. Create your own private wifi and you can share your paid connection w/ multiple devices.
