Unless you are going to pony up the substantial amount of money necessary to run a gas line and, of course, acquire the kit to convert your barbecue, that second filled tank is a must at all times. Periodically, I do a roast using the rotisserie unit, and that is usually at least a two-hour process and whether it be the tank or the barbecue itself the guages for measuring what propane is left in the tank are useless.
