To answer with a possible option...angle a small mirror (like one from a compact maybe) so that it points towards your projector, and sit sits by your receiver. Might work. You could do something more fancy and get an IR repeater, but a little mirror might be all you need.
I wouldn't expect the IR to reach both devices otherwise though, it's not going to be "laser-beam" focused but it won't be omnidirectional either. My guess is you could expect to maybe cover a space with a half cone angle of 30-45 degrees.
