I've long thought that there should be punctuation marks that denote sarcasm and jokes. My high school friend, Bruiser, came up with the "delta sarc." It was a triangle with a squiggle inside, for just such occasions. Here's an example, when spoken aloud:

"I really enjoyed Mr. Freeman's history lecture today, delta sarc..."

I can't help but think that if only it had caught on with the general public, all of this could have been averted, sigma joke.
