At low levels the 80's sound pretty good, but when you crank up the volume a bit is when they really shine.

When you hear about not enough power hurting speakers they are talking about when you turn the volume up to the point where the amplifier doesnt have enough power to drive the speakers. If you bought something like the C370 i really dont think you would have that problem. I have found that it has more than enough power.
