Don't rule out the rear projection LCD's. I too was looking at plasma's and ended up buying Sony's KF42WE610 42" Grand WEGA HDTV-Ready LCD Rear Projection TV. It has a fantastic picture at a third of the cost of the plasma I would have bought. I have not been disappointed yet with the Sony.
