I have some new QS8 surrounds and would like some advise on placement (I know...not again). Has anyone every ceiling mounted one of these freely hanging in the middle of their room? My HT is concentrated in one area of my basement (20x24). One of my Qs8's is about 7 ft up against one wall, the opposite surround could either be mounted proportionatly hanging from my ceiling (middle of room), OR on the opposite wall which is about 14 ft from my listening position. I have heard the suurounds are forgiving in placement, but just HOW forgiving? Any advise is much appreciated.

I'd hang it from the ceiling...
To have one speaker 7 feet away, and the other 14 feet away would be too great of a discrepancy, if you ask me.
If there is way to symmetrically (from your listening position) wall mount them, then do so. Even if it's not perfectly symmetrical, but try to get it as close as possible.

Just give it a try and see.
Wall reflections will modify how you hear the sound but without a wall ought to be interesting.
