There are quite a few posts around these boards about external fans. I've posted quite a few times on the subject since I have an HK630 and use an external fan. I do not keep mine in a cabinet and still use a fan. Check the link in my sig to see.

That's interesting that it only reached 75 F while on standby mode. The unit that I had would nearly have burned your hand if you left it on the top of the unit after it had been in standby for a few hours. Maybe my unit had multiple issues.

By standby, I mean off. Only the little orange light around the power button is on. Yours got hot in that mode??

My AVR 635 doesn't get hot during standby at all but it will get fairly warm during use, not too bad though.

Speaking of external cooling fans, typically do they normally suck the air up to dissapate heat or do they blow down on the unit to cool? Almost sounds profane, don't it.

I do believe that you would have the fan pull the heat away from the receiver.

That's what I thought also Rick...

Cooling Fan

...read where they say that this fan blows 'cool air' down through the componet. I'm being told on another forum that fans should blow air through the componets rather than pull the hot air out. I thought fans pulled the hot air out.

From what I know, the normal air path in your typical reciever is in through bottom or sides (not sure which), out through the top.

Interesting little animation--anyone else notice that component they're demonstrating has no vents on top?

By standby I meant power on but not playing anything through it.

Wow that's ridiculous. You could just replace the receiver when it finally craps out for those kind of prices. Looks like parts express or rat shack are the way to go.
