Maybe all you guys already know about this, but my kitchen cabinets showed up yesterday and I got to play with a neat toy. It's called a "magic corner" and helps to eliminate that useless dead space in the corner of the kitchen that fills up with junk and we end up having to clean out 'cause it's gross and scary. Take a look at the pics :

Anyways, I thought it was pretty neat...

No kidding John, that is pretty cool. When we had our current house built about 3 years ago, they tried to put those Lazy Suzane's that spin around. We hate those as you lose so much storage space. We had them just put in shelves, so we could get a lot of stuff in there.

I really like this design.

We also had a problem with stuff falling off the back when we spun the Lazy Susan too quickly... so I took all the wobbly things out and stuck all the pasta and rice in there instead. Worked great until we left a 1/2" open hole in the brickwork when removing a gas pipe and the house got infested with mice. You could spin the wheel and see the mice jump off ;(

I'm sure that was not funny at the time, but it gave me a good laugh. We had mice issues in our previous house, as we had a farm field behind us, and they loved to find warmth in the winter.

That wouldn't be IKEA kitchen stuff, would it?

It's a local guy who makes all the cabinets himself... or at least he has a lot of wood, saws and sawdust. Maybe he buys 'em from Ikea when we're not looking, who knows ?

It's a possibility. The bracket and tray looks like the Ikea stuff. I don't see enough of the cabinets to be able to tell. To tell you the truth I've seen a little too much Ikea kitchen stuff recently. I had to plan and implement storage space for nearly 600 different kitchen articles in my store. It was a huge pain in the ass. But now we can sell you a complete kitchen and have it ready to take home the same day. And some of the sets are actually quite nice. [/tangent]

For the new place I'm thinking of building a "mouse house" well away from the real house, with easy access and a 100w bulb for warmth, to keep the local rodentia from nesting in the real house.

I don't think Ikea has those yet, at least not in Canada. You have to go to the fancy-schmancy places like Lowes for magic corners

John,

But the mice would use your mouse house for warmth and drop by to your real house for food....kinda like take-out. Perhaps you will have to stock a mini-fridge and some mini-axioms so those pesky rodents won't bother ya.
